Project Angel Heart Fundraiser

Since 1991 Project Angel Heart has been delivering meals to men, women and children facing life threatening illnesses.  At The Beach Cares is taking action to help and support again this worthwhile organization.   How are we helping out this year?  It’s simple.  At The Beach Cares is sponsoring a donation drive in our At The beach Superstores to help support the good work and dedication of Project Angel Hear.  At The Beach Cares believes making a positive impact to those in our community and across the nation is an important part of making the future better and brighter!  Last year Project Angel Heart provided more than 445,581 meals to 1,950 clients free of charge.  Project Angel Heart is striving to cover more ground and reach more people.  At The Beach Cares support of Project Angel Heart makes a difference and you can help out too!

How can you make a difference? Visit any At The Beach location in Colorado, California, Oklahoma and Kansas to help out on your part with donations.  Last year our At The Beach Cares fundraiser raised $25,000 that we were able to donate to help make a difference.  This was strictly through the efforts of our wonderful customer donations. This small step is the beginning to a massive impact we make together in the end.  Doesn’t that feel good? At The Beach Cares believes it does!

Project Angel Heart is 21 years strong and expanding their delivery zone to encompass more territory. Life threatening illnesses can drain a person’s energy and finances, limit their independence and leave them feeling alone and vulnerable.  In 2012 there were more than 8,800 people who donated over 57,000 hours of their time preparing food in the kitchen and delivering nutritious meals to clients’ homes and events.  Your donation makes this possible, don’t wait, and contribute to help out now!  At The Beach Cares and with your donation of any amount, together we’ll touch more hearts, to those in need.

Profile in Caring – The youngest member of the ATB Cares team

How old do you have to be to care?  Would it surprise you to know that the youngest member of the At The Beach Cares team turned 11 today?  That is right, only 11 years old and already an active member of At The Beach Cares outreach team.

Matthew is the son of At The Beach’s Vice President of Corporate Development Judson Kinkade.  While you may think that Matthew is part of the At The Beach Cares team only because his father brings him to events that could not be farther from the truth.  Outside of helping out with At The Beach’s involvement with events like Denver’s Aids Walk, Matthew also volunteers to deliver food for Project Angel Heart with his mother on a regular basis, and has participated in volunteer activities with the regional food bank in Oklahoma City, and with Good Sheppard Ministries, also in OKC.  At The Beach Cares is certainly proud to have him represent At The Beach.

This year at Denver’s Aids Walk Matthew volunteered to participate in the “Diva Dash” and ran 200 meters in a pair of (borrowed) high heels to raise awareness and show his support of people suffering with Aids.  How many 11 year old boys do you know willing to do that?  The organizers of the event awarded him with the “Diva Disaster” title, in recognition of his participation, attitude and involvement.  Normally the “Diva Disaster” title is given to the biggest wipe out, or train wreck of a participant.  This year the judges made a change and awarded this title to Matthew and said “when I saw this young boy running as fast as he could in those heels we were just so impressed with his spirit.”  In addition to the race, Matthew was helping the At The Beach Cares team pass out free samples of sunscreen and burn relief to the participants.

So the next time you think that you are too old, or too young, or too busy to volunteer, just remember that if an 11 year old boy can do it, most likely you can too.  At The Beach Cares is proud to honor Matthew on his birthday as todays profile in caring.

At The Beach Tanning Donates $25,000 to Project Angel Heart

Englewood, Colo. (May 09, 2012) – At the Beach Tanning is known for its 64 tanning superstores, but it is also quickly becoming recognized as a strong advocate for nonprofit organizations in its four state region. Most recently, the longtime supporter of charitable causes raised $25,000 for Project Angel Heart through a special tanning coupon. The donation helped fund the Project Angel Heart’s new, larger facility.

A nonprofit serving the Denver area, Project Angel Heart provides free nutritious, home-delivered meals, to people living with life-threatening illness. Project Angel Heart volunteers work six days per week under the direction of professional chefs to prepare, package and deliver the meals, 70 percent of which are modified to meet recipients’ dietary needs. Now in its 21st year, Project Angel Heart delivered over 427,675 meals to 1,863 clients in 2011.

“For so many of its clients, Project Angel Heart provides healthy food and a much-needed lifeline to those with serious illnesses. At the Beach has been not only a proud financial supporter of the program since 2010, many of our employees also volunteer their time to prepare and deliver meals, so we know firsthand the impact their program has on those in need,” said Brian Belt, CEO of At the Beach. “We are grateful to all of our tanners for their support of this project, which enables Project Angel Heart to feed more people throughout the Denver area through expanded work space.”

The fundraiser, coordinated by At the Beach’s Vice President for Corporate Development, Judson Kinkade, included a special coupon offering clients one week of unlimited tanning for $9.95 at any of its locations. For each coupon redeemed, At the Beach donated the same amount to Project Angel Heart. Within a month, the wildly successful fundraiser netted $25,000. Supporting the in-store fundraising efforts was a special blog, At the Beach Cares (www.atthebeachcares.com), which is devoted to the company’s charitable efforts on behalf of a wide-range of causes.

“We are grateful for At the Beach’s support and commitment to our mission,” Project Angel Heart Executive Director Erin Pulling said. “At the Beach’s generous support helped Project Angel Heart build its new home which provides the capacity for Project Angel Heart to eventually quadruple the number of people who receive our nutritious, and often life-saving home-delivered meals.”

At The Beach Cares about The Center!

There is a lot going on in Denver to celebrate Pride, and At The Beach Cares is happy to be a part of that.  Check out the latest pride update from The Center -

Colorado’s Out Gay and Lesbian Legislators Named Grand Marshals of the 2012 CoorsLight PrideFest Parade

The Center is honored to announce our 2012 Denver PrideFest Grand Marshals: the four out gay and lesbian members of the Colorado state legislature: Senator Pat Steadman, Senator Lucia Guzman, Representative Mark Ferrandino, and Representative Sue Schafer. This year’s PrideFest theme is “Fight for your Right to Pride,” in recognition of both Pride month’s roots as a time to honor the Stonewall Rebellion and other moments when lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people stood up to oppression, and also in recognition of the work our representatives in the legislature have done in support of Colorado’s LGBT community.

The CoorsLight PrideFest Parade is the seventh largest Pride parade in the nation. This year, the parade is on Sunday, June 17, stepping off from Cheesman park at 9:30am and proceeding down Colfax into Civic Center Park, where the Grand Marshals will address the crowd in a rally. Last year, over 100,000 people attended the CoorsLight PrideFest Parade.

Says Representative Mark Ferrandino on being nominated as Grand Marshal: “I’m honored to serve with my fellow LGBT colleagues as Grand marshal of this year’s Pride Parade. Each of us works every day to move Colorado forward by fighting for our constituents. I am humbled to be able to serve my constituents of Denver who encourage me to fight for equality. The strong and growing numbers of LGBT elected officials has helped to change the hearts and minds of people across our great State. I appreciate the acknowledgment by the Center of the work being done in the legislature to ensure equal rights for our community.”

Senator Lucia Guzman says, “It is an honor to serve in the Legislature and I shall always be appreciative of the support of so many Coloradoans. As an “out” elected official, I find it even more important to the people of Colorado to be honest and “be who I am.” Denver PrideFest is one of the nation’s largest celebrations of LGBT Pride and it is important that the people attending PrideFest understand that their legislators are “leading the march” for respect, justice and equality.”

Denver Pridefest 2012 will be held on Saturday, June 16 and Sunday June 17, in downtown Denver’s Civic Center Park. Founded in 1975, Denver Pridefest is now the third largest pride festival in the country, with attendance for 2012 expected to exceed 325,000. Headliners for this year’s festival are dance superstar Kristine W on Sunday and Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli on Saturday. Entertainment for PrideFest includes the OutWest Country Stage, the Latin Stage, Smirnoff Dance World, and a Family Interactive area with a petting zoo.

Produced by The GLBT Community Center of Colorado (The Center), the mission of Denver PrideFest is to create a fun, safe and empowering space to celebrate and promote the heritage and culture of the LGBT community in Colorado.

At The Beach Cares is proud of the good work The Center is doing!
